The "newborn" insect has not yet hardned and is white and soft to touch, while the old exoskeleton remains behind on the branch. After a few hours the new and bigger individual will change to brown colour and hardened.

  • "Harriet".  The famous Galapagos Giant Turtle (Geochelone elephantopus) posibly collected by Charles Darwin at Isla Santa Cruz (Galapagos islands) in 1835. It is said that the turtle was brought back to London with HMS Beagle (the famous ship that carried Darwing around the World for 5 years) and on the same ship to Brisbane, Australia in 1842.  "Harriet" lived Australia Zoo near Brisbane until she died peacefully on 23rd June 2006, about 176 years old.
