Lonesome George, the only surviving specimen of the giant tortoise of the species Chelonoidis nigra abingdoni that was one found on Pinta Island, Galapagos. This only specimen of its kind left was when this photo was taken in 2011 kept at Darwin Research Station, Santa Cruz, the Galapagos. Born around 1910, died 24. June 2012. Photo from July 2011.
